Who it is for

Most items here are for people who sharpen skates for others: rink staff, club equipment managers and shops. Players at home usually need only a hand hone and an edge checker from sharpening accessories.

Machine

The Prosharp Advantedge is a portable sharpening machine for teams and smaller shops. It is under machines.

Wheels and diamonds

Grinding wheels from Blademaster, SSM and Howies come in different grits and hardnesses. A dressing diamond shapes the radius into the wheel, see diamonds and rivets.

Rivets

Copper and steel rivets from Blademaster and SSM fix the holder to the boot. They are in the same category as the diamonds.

Runners and holders are under skate accessories.

Frequently Asked Questions
Mainly clubs, rinks, shops and families with several players who skate a lot. For a single player, regular sharpening at a pro shop is usually enough – but a portable sharpener or edge-honing tool helps keep edges fresh between sharpenings.
The hollow is the groove ground into the bottom of the blade, measured as a radius. A smaller radius (like 3/8") gives more bite and quicker turns; a larger one (5/8" and up) gives more glide. 1/2" is the most common starting point for players.
It depends on how many skates you sharpen. Grinding wheels wear down gradually and need regular dressing to keep the right radius and a clean finish; replace them when they reach the minimum diameter the machine maker allows.
