The tape is polyethylene with a synthetic-rubber-based adhesive: it stretches, it shrugs off water and it holds hockey socks snug over the shin guards from the first shift to the last.

Because poly tape does not tear like cloth, keep a pair of scissors in the bag. Two or three wraps below the knee and one just above the skate usually do the job. Trainers also use the same tape as light athletic support tape.
